About the girl
Nancy Lan is a student, a part-time worker and a round-the-clock eater. Don’t be fooled by looks — she can out-eat most people three times her size. However, quantity is not always key. Nancy has also pledged to discover quality in every food — literally — by trying anything once, as long as it’s edible and not human-related (yes, I think we all know what that means). Animal innards? Yum. Weird fungi? Delish. Cheesesteak? Hm, let’s go with something more interesting, shall we?
About the blog
When a friend visits you in Philadelphia, inevitably they will ask you where to eat and drink. The question is, can you find the right places off the beaten path to show them the local sides of Philly? In this blog, I’ll explore Philly’s real side by taking you on a gustatory journey highlighting the lesser-known sides of Philly’s food and drink worlds.
Much of a city’s culture lies within its palate – the streets are exposed by the scents that dance in the air, and the tastes that linger in our mouths. Philly is much more than just Pat’s and Geno’s, and surely our delicious restaurants do not end at the fingertips of Stephen Starr. Rather than restaurant and/or beverage reviews (though there may be a few), a la every other foodie blog, I’d like to take you on a journey of the actual culture that lies beneath the ingredients of our city – how food and drink impacts and stems from the people here, their beliefs, and their love.
Food does not end at chewing, and drinking does not end at a good sip. This blog is for foodies and adventurers alike, whether you’d like to explore a new side of Philly after your years here, or if you’re just starting off in this city. Just remember – whoever you are – this is not the place to be snooty or to talk about why foie gras is more lucious than truffles; it’s about a feeling of inclusion into what Philly has to offer.
Bon Apetit, and cheers all around!
